Historical Note

The institution has been featured in the news since before its inception in 1925 as Grand Junction Junior College. Early newspaper articles relied on reporting by various Grand Junction locals familiar with the efforts to establish a junior college in the city. Communications about the college shifted to its primary officers once the college was established, including the board and the dean or president. It wasn't until the early 1960s that the college established a position dedicated to public relations that produced formal press releases. Since then, the role of public relations has expanded to the current Office of Marketing and Communications with the responsibility to manage the image of Colorado Mesa University across print and digital media.
