Colorado Mesa University Graduate Final Projects collection

 Collection
Identifier: CMU-UA-010

Scope and Contents

The collection contains graduate final projects in their entirety, most often capstones, or the documentation for completed project that could not be archived. Documentation is provided for graduate work in Teacher Education, which requires a presentation rather than written work, and for the Master of Business Administration, which requires students to conduct research using proprietary local business information and data that is often private and/or confidential in nature. Projects date from 2016 to the present, but a formalized process for transferring projects to the University Archives was not finalized until 2023 and so not all projects were archived prior to that date. The collection will continue to expand as additional projects are transferred for each cohort of graduate students.

Biographical / Historical

Mesa State College first offered its own graduate degree starting with the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1997. Prior to that the college had not been authorized by the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (CCHE) to provide graduate education directly but had partnered with other institutions in the state to facilitate remote graduate education toward degrees offered by those institutions. Following the renaming of Mesa State College to Colorado Mesa University, the number of graduate degrees offered steadily increased to support local employment needs. Around 2018 the institution decided to collect and preserve records of the final projects completed by graduate students which are held by Tomlinson Library Special Collections and Archives.
